Dan huang su (蛋黃酥) (pinyin with tones: dàn huáng sū) has a salty egg yolk inside layered with sweet red bean paste covered by flaky pastry dough topped with black sesame. If you cut it in half, you will notice that they are concentric circles. It is one of the popular moon cakes which people usually eat on Mid-Autumn Festival with some freshly brewed tea. You can find it in pastry shops or some bakeries. The ingredients of dan huang su are quite few, so some people like to DIY at home. But the techniques and steps of making pastries take a lot of works, so be grateful to someone who makes it for these delightful dainties!
