Ji Rou Fan (雞肉飯/鸡肉饭) Shredded Turkey/Chicken On Rice
Ji Rou Fan (雞肉飯/鸡肉饭) Shredded Turkey/Chicken On Rice |
Ji rou fan (雞肉飯/鸡肉饭) (pinyin with tone marks: jī ròu fàn) is as popular as lu rou fan (滷肉飯, braised pork on rice) but is made by chicken and contains less fat. Some diners use turkey instead of chicken, so it is also named huo ji rou fan (火雞肉飯) in some places. If speaking of khong rou fan(炕肉飯, braised sliced pork belly on rice) we will think of Changhua (彰化), then people will associate (huo) ji rou fan with Chiayi (嘉義).
Huo Ji Rou Fan (火雞肉飯) In Chiayi (嘉義)
Huo ji rou fan (火雞肉飯) (pinyin with tones: huǒ jī ròu fàn) is created in Chiayi and is usually served with shredded chicken, fried red onion/shallot (紅蔥頭), a piece of yellow pickle, and basted with some chicken oil. Like khong rou fàn in Changhua, you can find huo ji rou fan at breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late night supper time in Chiayi. People always order some side dishes together with huo ji rou fan just like how we have lu rou fan. If you feel lu rou fan is too greasy for you, huo ji rou fan is a good substitute for you.
「如果有滷肉飯和雞肉飯可以選,通常都是選雞肉飯;但人在國外的時候,先想起的反而是滷肉飯。」——Mosa 說
