Shui Jian Bao (水煎包) Steam-Fried Bun / Pan-Fried Bun
Shui Jian Bao (水煎包) Steam-Fried Bun / Pan-Fried Bun |
Shui jian bao (水煎包) (pinyin with tones: shuǐ jiān bāo), looks like a thick disk, is a common snack you can find in traditional breakfast shops or at street vendors in Taiwan. Similar to bao zi (包子, steamed stuffed bun), shui jian bao comes with stuffing such as minced pork, cabbages, or leeks.
Shui Jian Bao (水煎包) VS. Sheng Jian Bao (生煎包)
Both shui jian bao and sheng jian bao (生煎包) (pinyin with tones: shēng jiān bāo) are first fried with oil and then steamed by adding water into the pan. The different things are in the shape and the mouthfeel of dough. Shui jian bao looks like a thick disk and has soft bread outside with full of stuffing. Sheng jian bao, on the contrary, highlights its crispy dough on the bottom and a scatter of sesame on the top; besides, its size is just a little bit larger than a ping pong ball.
