Zhu Xie Gao (豬血糕/猪血糕) Pig's Blood Cake
Zhu Xie Gao (豬血糕/猪血糕) Pig's Blood Cake
Zhu xie gao (豬血糕/猪血糕) (pinyin with tones: zhū xiě gāo), sometimes called mi xie gao (米血糕, rice blood cake), is made of animal’s blood (usually from pigs or geese) and glutinous rice shaped like a rectangular solid. Zhu xie gao is a common ingredient in yan su ji (鹽酥雞, Taiwanese popcorn chicken), lu wei (滷味, soy sauce braised food), yan shui ji (鹽水雞, Taiwanese salty chicken), and huo guo (火鍋, hot pot). But a popular way to eat zhu xie gao alone is to dip it into special soy sauce and coat it with peanut powder (sometimes with cilantros). If you like spicy food, some vendors even provide chili sauce. You can find zhu xie gao in almost all night markets or on old streets.
