Cha Ye Dan (茶葉蛋/茶叶蛋) Tea Egg
Cha Ye Dan (茶葉蛋/茶叶蛋) Tea Egg |
Cha ye dan (茶葉蛋/茶叶蛋) (pinyin with tones: chá yè dàn), tea egg, is like boiled egg marinated in tea leaves and soy sauce. It tastes like lu dan (滷蛋/卤蛋, spiced corned egg), which is also braised in soy sauce and many spices. Cha ye dan uses shelled eggs, and before cooking, you should knock a little crack on the shell so that the sauce will flow into shell, which colors the egg and forms marble patterns. That is the main difference between cha ye dan and lu dan. You can find cha ye dan in every convenient store or at stands in old streets or traditional markets.
