Shi mu yu zhou (虱目魚粥/虱目鱼粥) (pinyin with tones: shī mù yú zhōu) is simply to put milkfish and white rice into hot water and boil it into porridge. Usually shredded ginger, minced garlic, and some vegetables are added into shi mu yu zhou as well. Milkfish in shi mu yu zhou comes in different forms. It can be a slice of fish maw, with skin and less meat, or boneless fish strips. Sometimes there are other seafood cooked with zhi mu yu zhou such as oyster, shrimp, or clam.
