Ji dan gao (雞蛋糕/鸡蛋糕), egg cake, is a traditional Taiwanese street snack. Ji dan gao contains egg, flour, sugar, and milk, simply as pancake does. The difference is that ji dan gao is baked in egg-shaped molds; this is how it is named. Now ji dan gao has diverse patterns you can find in traditional markets, night markets, and everywhere on the street.

The Invention Of Ji Dan Gao (雞蛋糕/鸡蛋糕)

It is said that ji dan gao is invented in 1950s by a grocery store owner in order to avoid waiting broken eggs. The owner added flour, some oil, and sugar into broken eggs, and baked it until golden brown, the popular ji dan gao was done!
