Di Gua Zhou (地瓜粥) Sweet Potato Congee |
Di gua zhou (地瓜粥) (pinyin with tones: dì guā zhōu), also called di gua xi fan (地瓜稀飯/地瓜稀饭) (pinyin with tones: dì guā xī fàn) or fan shu zhou (番薯粥) (pinyin with tones: fān shǔ zhōu), is sweet potato congee, a common staple food in early Taiwan. Di gua zhou is easy to cook. Just chop or grate sweet potatoes into pieces and cooked them with rice together. You can find di gua zhou in zi zhu can (自助餐, self-serve bento box shop), diners selling qing zhou xiao cai (清粥小菜, congee and side dishes), and some traditional restaurants. Di gua zhou is also a popular home cooking because it is easy to digest which is good for children, the elders, and the sick people.
