Tshau A Kue (草仔粿) Mugwort Rice Cake |
Tshau a kue (草仔粿) (Taiwanese: tsháu á kué), mugwort rice cake, is a traditional sweet made of glutinous rice. It tastes just like mua tsi (麻糬, mochi) but the skin is green, which is made of mugwort, a kind of grass that has a fresh smell. In addition, tshau a kue has sweet and savory fillings. The sweet one usually is red bean paste, which is also a popular flavor for mua tsi. The savory tshau a kue is the classic one, which has salted shredded daikon radish inside. Tshau a kue used to be the offering when people worship gods or goddesses or celebrate festivals. Nowadays it becomes more common. You can find tshau a kue in traditional markets or in the old streets.
