Shao bing (燒餅/烧饼) (pinyin with tones: shāo bǐng), sesame flat bread, is also a must-have snack in traditional breakfast shops in Taiwan. Broadly speaking, shao bing is flaky crust with sesames on the top and can be made sweet or savory. But “shao bing” most Taiwanese refer to is the one without stuffing and in a flat rectangle shape. It is usually cut a slit and sandwiches you tiao (油條, deep-fried bread stick), omelette with scallions, vegetables, or any meat you want. It is also good if you eat it alone or with dou jiang (豆漿, soy milk).
